Full Moon in Satabhisa

Exploring the healing and transformative energies of the full moon in the nakshatra of Satabhisa.

Moon Cycle Timeline: This Moon cycle began on Sunday 8/4/24, the full moon appeared on Monday 8/19/24 (in Asia it was on the 20th), and the next new moon occurred on Monday 9/2/24.

The Nakshatra which contains the full Moon provides the impetus of growth that stimulates the entire moon cycle from wax to wan. The Nakshatra of this full moon is Satabhisa according to the Vedic tradition.

When discussing the nakshatra which are the regions of space occupied by the fixed stars, (they only move 1 degree of arc in 72 years), it is useful to look to the stars themselves. In ancient times celestial lights were counted on for navigation through deserts, mountains and oceans, great trust was put into them thus the term "fixed" gave adventures, explorers, conquerors, traders and merchants a sense of sure footing when strike out.

Cygnus the Swan - Celestial Navigation

Star Gienah in Cygnus: The Swan's Wing

Perhaps it is useful to talk first about the conjunction of this coming full Moon to the fixed star Gienah in the constellation of Cygnus, the Swan. Gienah, a word originating from the Arabic, Al Jonah, meaning the Wing, is at the tip of the left wing of Cygnus in Aquarius.

The swan was put into the heavens as a homage to the form that Zeus took in his chase to seduce Leda, queen of Sparta and all the drama that precipitated this action. He caught up to her and after depositing his seed, Leda soon after slept with her husband Tyndareus and the result was children from both men being born from her womb. This sets a tone of deception both from Zeus's adultery against his wife Hera and Leda keeping secret her liaison with Zeus from her husband.

The Power of Secrecy

Echoing these intrigues the Nakshatra Satabhisa has a penchant for secrecy and protecting sensitive information. The capacity to hide thoughts, intensions, emotions, identity and anything else is unparalleled here and while this is a particularly good time of trickery and subterfuge, we must be aware that we are likely to become victim of our own game while many things move through the shadows.

Most of these deceptive strategies will be aimed at maintaining a sense of order and structure and those who strive for change will likely be duped into aligning their force behind a cause that will not follow through on its commitments. This nakshatra being ruled by Rahu, and presided over by Varuna, a deity whose name means, "Binds the ocean" and "He who covers", is similar to the sky covering the earth implicating that much of the power of Satabhisa comes from that which is hidden in nature.

In today's world the secrecy and smoke screens are most likely to be seen in the media and how news is crafted. Even though there will be some facts slipped in, the message is propaganda from one side or the other, those who truly hold the reins of power remain in the shadows. Con-men and women will abound at this time so take a little extra precaution.

100 Healers, 100 Medicines

From the hidden aspects of the world also come the miraculous. All the medicinal herbs of the world were seen as being held in the oceans along with their secret formulations which reaches their pinnacle in Amrita, the panacea of all ills and even death that Varuna holds in a pot.

One of the names for Satabhisa is "100 physicians and 100 medicines". The power of this nakshatra is to give healing and the result is a world freed from calamity. Setting out water and other objects under this full Moon can activate these properties.

Waxing Moon Healing

The waxing phase of this moon cycle will be especially beneficial for taking medicine to build, improve and tonify our health.

Waning Moon Cleansing

The waning phase is particularly efficient in purges and cleanses to remove toxins, microbes, and any other pathogens.

Surely when we are healed as individuals our entire circle of influence is benefited and a number of healed individuals grouping together creates a force that can overcome the calamities that will befall us if we succumb to the darker potentials of this lunar mansion.

This healing is not limited to the physical body and the emotional, energetic, mental and spiritual levels are all available for healing at this time, particularly dealing with the shadow and unconscious forces. The more subtle levels are implicated by another symbolism operating here, Rahu and the Black Sun.

Rahu and the Black Sun

Despite the desecration from the Nazis to the symbols of the swastika and black sun, their ancient roots can not be altered and they remain powerful images that contain a multitude of knowledge and wisdom. The Black Sun is the eclipse and the eclipse is Rahu.

Rahu and Ketu are the north and south nodes of the Moon and these are the points where the eclipse of the Sun and Moon occur. Symbolically the eclipse is the dark night of the soul, the dissolution of the ego and limited self that is necessary to go through in order gain greater energy, awareness and insight.

The Invisible Bridge: There is however no guardrail that we can hold on to forever. At some point in the dissolution everything seems to recede into oblivion, this is commonly the signal that produces the reaction to retreat but if we persist, the nothingness that seems to be swallowing us transforms into cornucopia. Rahu is a pathway of shadows, somewhat like the invisible bridge in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there and yet not there.

It is in the crossing, with the requirement of going beyond our previously held fixed notions, comfort zones and concrete rationalism, extending out in a sense of faith of something greater that we renew ourselves and our world, rediscovering the familiar as novelty.

The Empty Circle: Symbol of Wholeness

The symbol for Satabhisa is the empty circle and that is exactly what we see in a full eclipse of the Sun. Without seeing the deeper meaning we can use this energy for some of the darkest and most destructive purposes and this moon cycle will bring out depressions, loneliness and apathy, but in essence it is the doorway to gathering light and the shadow into one place and perceiving within ourselves a fleeting moment of wholeness and peace.

If you have been wanting to protect something, contain things by making a boundary, a protection circle, this moon cycle will give opportunities. As Rahu is known as the Dragon's Head, all self-centered pursuits, self-indulgences, obsessions, compulsions and self-gratifications can either by magnified and blow our lives up or we can allow the part of ourselves clinging on to behaviors and objects to go through the dissolution process, a type of death that produces new life, invigorating and fresh.

Waxing Moon

Building up protections and making boundaries proves fruitful during the waxing moon phase.

Waning Moon

The waning Moon will quicken the pace of shedding and dissolving the false notions of the self.

Pada 1: Optimistic Philanthropy

The full Moon falls in the first Pada of this nakshatra and this will lend a more optimistic and philanthropic light to some of the darker scenes with a tendency to become overly-enthusiastic with beliefs, causes and faith. On a lighter note there can be some enjoyment of swimming and places associated with water; particularly lakes, ponds and oceans.

Water Safety Warning: Pluto is also in Aquarius at this time so if that is transiting your eighth, sixth or twelfth house then water can become dangerous and one shouldn't venture far from the shore or take unnecessary risks.

Healing Through Destruction

Over all, this moon cycle has great potentials in healing but also equally great potential in destruction and deceit. If we can use the destructive energy to eliminate the corrosive factors limiting our enjoyment and fulfillment of our lives and the people around us it will naturally cause a healing of its own.

This will likely be a challenging time for relationships and partnerships should be on guard so as not to allow break downs and deceptions that could undermine the strength of bonding ties. Joining in activities that are unified in healing, beliefs, purpose and faith can advance partnerships during this time.

Vargas: The 16 Facets of Experience

Vargas are created by dividing a sign into different parts. The amount of parts that a sign is divided into carries a particular symbolic value and represents a unique aspect of life. There are 16 vargas that have been given prominence in jyotish literature. Each varga is like a facet of a jewel through which we see the variability of experience. The full Moon in all 16 vargas is given below and will augment the influence coming from the nakshatra.

D1 Rasi - Full Moon in Aquarius

Focus on humanitarian goals and needs. Emphasis on group work, group think, large groups in general and focusing on how to get attention from the masses. Moon is reflecting light of the Sun from Leo, there will be a sense of giving permission to lead. This coincides nicely with the Democratic convention and so we will see a female (moon) being given the endorsement from her party to lead. On an interpersonal level we connect out inner inspirations with larger groups, societies, clubs, meetings, etc. to explore and discover how our creativity, dynamic action and inspiration can merge with others and have a greater stage for expression. This will lead to great gains.

D2 Hora - Moon in Leo

Ancient text Yavana Jataka describes the second Hora of Aquarius as a black woman grasping a noose. This text comes down to us from around the 5th century CE, and so the image of a noose in this context is about the ability to ensnare, seize, capture and hold firm an object of desire. It goes on to say "she is in the final stage of intoxication, clever, surrounded by throngs and commands Fate". The "final stage of intoxication" is in reference to the next sign, Pisces, which is the last sign and indicating the liberation, release and completion of a cycle, so the second Hora of Aquarius is just on the cusp of completion. For the rest of us, this position indicates there is a fortune of abundant resources if we work with teams and associates in creative and inspired ways towards higher goals and experiment with going beyond our notions of whats possible in the realm of how we use our intelligence and creativity to allow new approaches to emerge.

D3 Drekkana - Moon in Libra

This is a Durvasa Drekkana which implicates that the energy moving in this full moon is to destroy, tear down and eradicate anything that is an obstacle to maintaining balance and the ability to trade ideas, energy and views in an open forum. The force necessary will be available and the wisdom on what to destroy and what to keep will also be at hand. This destruction is more about the energy of transition, about making space for better things to arise and is not malevolent.

D4 Chaturthamsa - Moon in Scorpio

In this time of transition what we will make our fortune with are the deep felt connections, emotional bond and spiritual aspect of our experience willing to delve into the shadow. When working with yourself, the deeper you go the more luck you create, when working with others, the more vulnerability you can cause to manifest and the ability to make connections in that state will be an enduring source from which fortune can spring.

D7 Saptamsa - Moon in Leo

In one of the most creative positions, the seventh portion of an odd sign falls under the lordship of Suddha Jala, which can be loosely translated as "pure water". This represents a heightened blissful state that is all creative with no agenda or bias, consummate creativity. The Saptamsa is traditionally used for children, if you have been trying to have children this moon cycle will be quite fertile.

D9 Navamsa - Moon in Gemini

The destiny of this cycle is taking the path of power and dominion through all types of media, information, and propaganda. It will be witnessed on social media with a display of the intensity of focus on desires pushing and warping information to suit the desperate needs of fulfilling internal drives and desires to be met from external sources.

D10 Dasamsa - Moon in Scorpio

While the show goes on in the battle for information the real activity in this full moon will be hidden under the surface and involving the powers of money, shadow banking, seduction and the secret underpinnings of power. There is an outer display of fighting for beliefs which turns ugly as information is increasingly weaponized but insecurity will creep in towards will power.

D12 Dwadasamsa - Moon in Sagittarius

The presiding deity of this placement is Yama, the lord of the dead and death and the Dwadasamsa is a varga showing our ancestors influence on us. This moon cycle our ancestors will be particular involved in shaping our minds. The chart of the USA is generally agreed upon as Sagittarius rising. The moon in this position will increase the ancestral connections, especially those who fought for a cause.

D16 Shodamsa - Moon in Libra

Emotions will run hot and can break out into expression causing shocks and instability. When caught up emotionally negotiations will break down, however, through analysis and evaluating the cost of making choices, a larger view can be obtained to establish good feeling.

D20 Vimsamsa - Moon in Gemini

There will be lots of twisted logic that people will be devoted to in order to create phantom cities where people who are like minded in obstinacy can come together to push agendas through war-like thinking and a combination of exaggerations along with denials and withholding information.

D24 Siddhamsa - Moon in Taurus

A powerful time to have accurate evaluations on what the physical and material needs are in relationship to the masses. Thinking and contemplation will be hindered by a sense of haste creating an erratic mind that is easily frustrated and angry which can lead to deception.

D27 Bhamsa - Moon in Libra

Fierce competition in the marketplace and a great hunger for power through trade and economics. To accomplish these means a perverse type of enjoyment over fighting and underhanded dealings will be seen. Over analysis will restrict initiation action and fighting for what we believe.

D30 Trisamsa - Moon in Cancer

This varga is related to fatalities and illness. Moon in it's own sign gives strength and protection to the flow and distribution of blood throughout the body. There are quite a few good signs in this chart so the physical well-being looks to be overall positive. There is some elemental imbalances with fire planets being in water signs.

D40 Khavedamsa - Moon in Aries

Auspiciousness is seen from this chart. There is the ability to adapt our needs to the greater vision of our life while creating a world where our individual needs can be fulfilled. There will be losses to personal opinions and strong held beliefs in deference to the group that will produce frustration.

D45 Akshavedamsa - Moon in Sagittarius

There is a growing strength of purpose in pursing our beliefs on a mass scale. The purposeful activities are moved into place through mainly worldly concerns looking for the best solution that gives the greatest prosperity. Chaos and confusions of the masses will further obscure the truth.

D60 Shastiamsa - Moon in Leo

Overall ambition for recognition, obtaining prominent positions, working in front of people, public speaking, being in the spotlight and social climbing will be major themes along with movement in the hidden realms of power to move the mind of the masses. With great passion intellectual arguments predominate and breakdowns in loyalties occur over idealistic concerns.
